In this episode of Tell Us Your Story, we stepped into a truly special place — both physically and personally — with Sandy Finley, Broker Associate Manager at REMAX Dream Homes. Sandy invited us into her brand new Rocklin office, complete with a warm, open space, a kitchen for hosting, and a beautifully designed podcast studio. But what made this episode unforgettable wasn’t just the space — it was her story.
Early Days, Surfboards, and Speed
Sandy grew up in Southern California — the oldest and only girl among four siblings — in a tight, faith-based household. While school wasn’t her strength, her passion for surfing and racing cars filled her days. She spent more time catching waves than attending class, but her upbringing taught her resilience and responsibility. From an early age, she helped raise her younger brothers while her parents, both hardworking professionals, were often away.
Even as a teen, Sandy knew what she loved: people, homes, and storytelling. Her dad was an architect, and she found inspiration in drafting plans with him and exploring job sites. At the same time, she dreamed of becoming the next Oprah — drawn to journalism and connecting with others.

Starting from Scratch — and Starting Over
At just 18, Sandy moved out and supported herself by working three jobs. She was fiercely independent and refused help, determined to carve her own path. After relocating to Nevada with her soon-to-be husband, Sandy ran a family restaurant that ultimately didn’t survive. But the lessons she took from that experience shaped her future — especially her grit in business.
She later spent a decade in Reno, working her way through nearly every department at a small alarm company while raising her three daughters. Her passion for storytelling never faded. At one point, she even began writing a book, Stories from the Sidewalk, based on real conversations she had with people she met on the streets.
Finding Her Place in Real Estate
Inspired by her father’s work with homes and her own desire to serve others, Sandy eventually pursued a career in real estate. She started in Nevada but officially launched her career in Rocklin in 2006. Learning the ropes during a downturn in the market proved to be a blessing. She had time to build a strong foundation — door knocking, staying consistent, and involving her daughters in her work.

Despite being told early on by a peer that she “would never make it,” Sandy leaned into the challenge. She succeeded not just through drive, but through authenticity and care. Her goal was never just to sell homes — it was to build relationships.
The Blueprint: Culture, Coaching, and Clients First
Today, Sandy helps run REMAX Dream Homes, a new brokerage built on values that mirror her own. The space was designed intentionally — welcoming, community-focused, and collaborative. With a full kitchen and gathering areas, it’s more than an office. It’s a place for clients, agents, and the community to connect.
For Sandy, culture is non-negotiable. “We’re not for everybody,” she says. Her focus is on mentorship, accountability, and giving agents the resources and support they truly need. She emphasizes three pillars of prospecting (like door knocking, events, and outreach) and teaches agents to work consistently — not just chase trends.
And when it comes to clients, honesty is everything. Whether it’s pricing a home to sell or advising a buyer not to move forward, Sandy leads with integrity. “I don’t buy my listings,” she explains. It’s about long-term trust — not just the sale.
Grace Through Grief

Behind all of Sandy’s strength is a deeply personal journey. While building this new brokerage, Sandy was also navigating the unimaginable — the loss of her daughter, Kendall, to a rare and aggressive cancer. Diagnosed in August and gone just six months later, Kendall’s passing came during the earliest stages of REMAX Dream Homes being built.
Through it all, Sandy found purpose in the project. The vision boards, the meetings, and the design process became her lifeline — something to hold onto amid her grief. Her husband, who she remarried ten years ago, was her rock and her reminder: “You made a commitment to others, and you need to fulfill that commitment.”
The support from her agents and team became its own form of healing.
Redefining Success
Sandy admits that early in her career, success meant financial stability — a way to prove she could do it without a college degree. But today? Success looks different.
“Did I make a client feel better about their home? Did my husband feel loved today? Did I make a difference for someone else?” These are the questions that matter now.
If she could go back and talk to her 30-year-old self? “Don’t be so hard on yourself. And stop worrying about what other people think.”
A Final Thought
Sandy’s story is about more than real estate. It’s about perseverance, community, and the power of showing up for others — even in your own darkest moments.
Her advice? “Wake up and ask, what can I do for someone else today? Because giving — truly giving — changes everything.”

Sandy’s journey reminds us that leadership doesn’t always come from the loudest voice in the room — sometimes it’s in the steady commitment to growth, the courage to take risks, and the wisdom to choose people over positions.
